Early Impact Helps Carl Zeiss IMT Streamline Quoting Process
MISSION VIEJO, CA, May 6, 2003 /For General Release/ -- Early Impact, an ecommerce software development company, announced today that Minneapolis, MN-based Carl Zeiss IMT Corporation, the North American subsidiary of Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, has begun using a custom product configurator and quoting system built on Early Impact’s ProductCart Build to Order technology.
The marketing department at Carl Zeiss IMT had looked for a quoting system that would meet its needs for quite some time. Carl Zeiss needed a way for its dealers to generate custom product quotes in an environment that would guarantee centralized control and easy access to all information used to prepare the quotes. At the same time, Carl Zeiss needed a way for its sales force to effectively manage the finished quotes submitted by its dealers.
Early Impact used its ProductCart Build to Order ecommerce and quoting system as a starting platform, and added numerous customizations in a timely and budget-sensitive manner. The result is a powerful product configuration and quoting system that improves productivity, reduces errors, and contains the costs involved with the process of generating, receiving and managing custom product quotes.
Among its many features, the system provides the following functionality.
- An Intranet environment for authorized dealers that is available at any time, via a standard browser, through which dealers can generate, save, print and submit complete, custom quotes for Carl Zeiss’ wide range of industrial metrology products.
- A Wizard-style system that guides dealers step by step through the custom quoting process, including a powerful, real-time product configurator.
- An intuitive administration interface that allows Carl Zeiss’ marketing department to easily set up configurable products for dealers to use in their quotes.
- A flexible reporting system that allows Carl Zeiss’ sales representatives to review quotes submitted by dealers that have been associated with them within moments of their submission.

The entire development process required less than three months, and we have been very satisfied with the way our requirements were turned into system features and added to the project.”
Thanks to the strong set of features already included in the standard version of ProductCart Build to Order, the project was completed at a cost equal to a fraction of that of alternative solutions reviewed by Carl Zeiss IMT.
