How SubscriptionBridge came along
A couple of years ago we started selling subscriptions. As Authorize.Net customers, we adopted their Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) system to process recurring payments. They're a reliable payment system: no need to reinvent the wheel, right? Right, but we quickly realized that Authorize.Net ARB did not provide many of the features that we needed to manage those subscriptions.
For example, we wanted to automatically follow-up multiple times after a failed payment, so that customers would pay their outstanding balance without us getting personally involved (costly and not fun). Well, Authorize.Net ARB doesn't do that for you. We also found out that Authorize.Net ARB did not support more complex scenarios such as usage-based billing (metered charges).
So... here's what we did:
- We built a number of subscription management features for Authorize.Net ARB merchants
- Since we've been a long time PayPal partner, we did the same for PayPal WPP Recurring Payments
- Finally, there was a part of our business that was simply too complex for Authorize.Net ARB, so we decided to integrate into SubscriptionBridge the new Early Impact payment gateway, which supports even more sophisticated subscription management features.
That's how SubscriptionBridge was born: to give us the tools we need to manage the subscription-based portion of our business.
